September 26, 2020 marks the 60th Anniversary of El Toro Water District (ETWD). From our early roots when a group of visionary leaders came together to bring a more reliable water supply to 125 ranchers, to the present, where we provide safe, reliable drinking water, wastewater and recycled water services to over 49,000 customers, the ETWD board of directors and staff remain dedicated to serving the community for future years to come.
ETWD proudly serves all of the City of Laguna Woods and portions of the cities of Lake Forest, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo and Aliso Viejo.
ETWD’s key milestones over the last 60 years are shown on the timeline. Among the District’s most significant milestones include:
- 1967 Construction of the 223 million gallon El Toro Reservoir
- 1982 Transition from being a wholesale water supplier to a retail water company
- 2002 Increased capacity of the El Toro Reservoir by 52 million gallons. It is the largest covered drinking water reservoir in Orange County.
- 2015 Expansion of the Recycled Water Plant and Distribution System
